Axios report on car ownership costs cites transportation insecurity

The Transportation Security Index was included in the Center for Connected and Automated Transportation (CCAT) 2026 Technology Transfer Leadership Award given out at the annual Transportation Research Board meeting in Washington D.C.
The award, accepted by director of CCAT, Henry Liu recognizes the scaling and transfer of transportation research into real-world deployments, including Dr. Alex Murphy’s research on transportation insecurity. CCAT funded research to reduce survey costs and respondent burden by developing a 3-Item Transportation Security Index. This TSI-3 was recently included on two statewide surveys fielded by the Michigan Department of Transportation.

New Index Measures Transportation Insecurity

The TSI has been instrumental in the formation and evaluation of the Mobility, Access, and Transportation Insecurity (MATI) program. Having TSI as one of our quantifiable measures will help provide a clear picture of what interventions move the needle in bringing better options to people’s lives.
